Week 2 - PROMISES OF GOD

Day 7 : The Promises Of Jesus (Part II)

1) If we believe, we can!

Mark 9:23
“If you can”? Said Jesus. Everything is possible for him who believes.

This doesn’t mean we can manipulate God into doing anything but is a promise that God will do His will through those who believe.

2) The promise of Jesus’ presence

Matthew 18:20
“For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them”

The main message this verse conveys is that when disciples meet to pray, Jesus is there.

3) The promise of rest for the weary.

Matthew 11:28-29
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

The expectation is that those who are weary should seek Jesus personally. As a response, Jesus offers to lead them to ‘rest’. This rest will provide refreshment for the soul and training for service in Christ.

4) The promise of the reward for what we have done

Matthew 16:27
For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done

The way we live our lives shows who and what we believe. Jesus came as a Saviour but he will also come as a Judge. This is emphasized in Acts 17:31

Acts 17:31
For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.

Life application

The promises of Jesus offer rest and the capacity to do the impossible. While Jesus has offered this freely, am I willing to respond equally?

Challenge

Make a decision to study out all the promises made by Jesus in the gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. Meditate through them, ask God for a heart of flesh that believes these promises and commit to a life that pleases God.
